We are looking for an exceptional person to join our Think Communities Youth in Communities team as Youth and Community Coordinator for Huntingdonshire.

Think Communities is at the heart of changing the way the public, private and voluntary sector work together with communities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. By investing in communities and supporting local delivery by those who know their residents best, we will improve the outcomes for people who do not yet have local support networks, creating places where people can feel safe, healthy, connected and able to help themselves and each other.

As an ambassador of the Think Communities approach, you will work confidently in the knowledge that our activity will support local and public sector priorities whilst allowing you the freedom and autonomy to work innovatively in your area.

With highly effective communication, excellent listening skills and group work skills and an ability to empower, motivate and support others the Youth and Community Coordinators enable young people and residents to address the issues that are important to them by developing their own services and projects. A strong understanding of the capability, capacity and sustainability of community led action developed through strength based and asset based community development and a strong understanding of youth work practices and principles will be complimented by desire to explore different interventions and funding opportunities which support and improve the lives of people in our places.

Youth and Community Coordinators are required to work independently and with autonomy within their geographical district but are part of a dynamic and energetic team within the Youth in Communities team. They work effectively in partnership across Children and Young People’s services, other Local Authority directorates, the third sector and communities to develop and support grassroots community-led voluntary organisations to address needs the needs of young people within their communities. They work closely with key partner agencies such as schools, voluntary and community organisations, Parish, Town, District Councils and children centres, ensuring that the planning and development of provision meets the needs of the local community. Working with partner agencies to identify and help secure sustainable funding for voluntary and community led projects and organisations and maximising available resources. They enable sustainable community led youth services, utilising the strengths and diversity of those involved and building capacity by supporting with safeguarding and training. Fostering a culture of innovation through working in collaboration, community groups will develop and support their young people with the transition to adult life and to thrive.

There is a strong emphasis on minority and vulnerable groups of young people and supporting the development of services that will improve their outcomes. The JNC qualification or equivalent is essential to this role as is a sound understanding and knowledge of safeguarding and the ability to travel.

Interviews will take place virtually on 22nd and 23rd April. There will be two panels: an adult-led panel during the day and a panel led by young people late afternoon/early evening.
