SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE ENGINEER (MATERNITY COVER)
Salary: £38,813 – £43,662 per annum (City Pay Band 7)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term, Maternity Cover
Closing Date: 12 noon, 30th October 2019

Water is an essential part of the Cambridge landscape, from the world renowned Backs, to the historic wetlands of Coe Fen and Sheep’s Green through to the man-made watercourse of Hobson’s Conduit and the unique Runnels along Trumpington Street. In the 21st Century, strains on historic drainage systems and the challenges of climate change mean innovative new solutions to water management are needed.

It is widely recognised in Cambridge that sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) provide this solution and they offer an excellent opportunity to introduce water in the landscape throughout the new communities that are planned for the City.

Working across the City, you will play a key role in providing an effective, high quality and comprehensive Sustainable Urban Drainage Service, in accordance with the City Council’s objectives and responsibilities. As well as maintaining and managing watercourses, you’ll fulfil the Council’s surface water flood management duties by implementing and promoting SUDs, both directly and with key partners.

Familiar with water cycle issues, drainage principles and technologies, you will bring to the role proven experience in the implementation and management of SUDs. In addition, your excellent communication and negotiation skills will allow you to deal with new development planning applications efficiently, in line with planning legislation, policy and guidance relative to SUDs.

We offer many excellent employee benefits which include: pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlement, travel benefits, health & well-being initiatives, employee support scheme and learning and development opportunities.
