We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Specialist Practitioners to work with children and young people with SEND. You will have a background in a related area such as a nursery nurse, teaching assistant or learning support assistant and be able to evidence experience of working in schools, pre-school settings, the home environment, or specialist provision supporting SEND.

The ideal candidates will be expected to work to deliver structured support plans in partnership with colleagues, under the direction of Specialist Teachers or Educational Psychologists who will manage the casework. Experience working within more than one age range and setting would be ideal, with the ability to transfer skills across age ranges and settings as needed. There may be opportunities to become part of the SEND Specialist Services training team in a relevant core SEND specialist area.

Ideally, you will need to have knowledge and experience of working with pre-school and/or primary/secondary schools and children with complex and challenging additional needs, who may present with challenging behaviours. You may have experience working with children who have been permanently excluded from schools, or of working in the home environment on an educational support package. You will need to be able to work both independently and jointly with other professionals as directed and have the confidence and knowledge to deliver structured packages of support. This may include modelling to school and setting based colleagues, working with groups or individually with children in settings.

You may provide structured support in the home following specific strategies as part of the delivery of an Early Support plan. You could be tasked to work with primary aged pupils who are receiving home tuition due to long-term medical needs alongside a specialist teacher. You will need to have accurate recording skills to maintain a record of involvement for all supported casework.

Training and support will be provided to enable you to develop your skills within the position.

Given the nature of this peripatetic role, you will be required to travel within the county, with an administrative base in Huntingdon or Cambridge.
